Ready for a long weekend

It's almost 3:00pm on a Thursday afternoon, the sun is shining through a haze of (unfortunately) pollution, and makes me want to go and soak up the warmth. But instead I sit at my desk looking out the window at the view. The second hand seems to be dragging it's way around the clock face, and Time is not making the wait for the weekend any easier. "Why?" you ask the anticipation for the weekend.

Well, we are going away this weekend to a leaders retreat with the leaders of the church, and future leaders. We are going to African Enterprises in Martizburg, and it should be fun. I am looking forward to the mutton curry they had on the menu for tonight's supper. A good curry is always welcome. But, more that that I think it will be a time to relax, where I will be out of the normal environment so I can't pfaff about things at home or anything, but I have to rest. We are, of course, taking the mountain bikes with us, so there will be some more extreme fun on the way. They say that some of the toughest mountain bike terrains are there. But, I think I will stick to the more sedentary “jeep trails” on the AE property. They have 6ha that I can explore.

I remember the last time I was there, also a church get together, we all sat on the couches reminiscing about Monty Python episodes and movies, and laughing so much we had stitches. All that while drinking cups of hot chocolate, and the room being warmed by log fires. Wow, the memory is a powerful thing. I am sure it wasn’t really as cosy as my memory is trying to get me to believe.

So, as soon as the clock strikes 4:30pm I have to rush out of here, and get home as quickly as I can so that we can be on our way. The only downside is that the traffic from here to Maritzburg is terrible, especially considering it is over a long weekend.

Happy Weekend!!!!

Manic Weekend

Talk about an eventful weekend. Paul's mother is alright, and will be going into surgery tomorrow, so we will know more after that. We left the hospital at about 9pm on Friday night after visiting her, and it was a long evening.
On Saturday I had some of the pictures from Daniel's birthday party printed, the first from my new camera and let me tell you, they're something special. I can't thank Paul enough for the camera and the opportunity to start making my dream a reality. There was also this little fella on one of the flowers in our garden, which I just had to share as he is too cute for words, a little praying mantis. Then the afternoon was a rush to get a chicken roasting in the slow cooker and to David's birthday party, which was a blast, and then to see Lisa and Cobus at their engagement party. We got home by about 9:30pm and went to sleep almost straight away as Paul was racing on Sunday.
On Sunday morning we were up at 4am, and at the race start by about 5:30am. I managed to see Paul start and then waited around for the winning bunch to come flying through, which, provided ample opportunity to try and take some stunning photo's. Not many presented themselves. I did manage to get a picture of him finishing though. Then we were off to a lunch at Lori and Winston's home, which is what the roasted chicken was for... The chicken was delicious and the lunch with everyone was fun. Then we were off to Entabeni again to see Margie, who was looking like a whole different person from the time that we saw her on Friday night. Then we came home and I was finished, so I turned in early.
Today was a tiring one, because I woke up that way. I went to the blood clinic to donate blood for Bronwyn today, and that was an adventure of note, with my arm bleeding profusely, because I wasn't careful enough with it after the donation, but I am still alive and well, and just more tired now. Paul has gone to church for some meetings and I am getting ready to turn in again, after a good soak in the bath and some quiet time.

Oh yes, I almost forgot this one, when I was finished at the blood clinic, driving back to the office, this is what I saw. (Picture of vehicle) Can you believe that a person would tie his canoe to the side of the vehicle when he has perfectly good roof racks to carry it on?

Happy Friday

Well, today my hubby comes home after being away for 2 nights on a management conference at the lovely Zimbali Eco Estate. So it is a happy Friday indeed. But, he just called me to say that his mother has been admitted to hospital and that she may have to have gall stones removed tonight already, so we wait to hear if they operate today or tomorrow. Please keep her in your prayers.

It has been a quiet day so far, and I have managed to get through the work I have needed, sent a friend instructions on how to cook baby butternuts and hopefully figured out how to make a new pair of jeans, from an old pair that need to retire. *holding thumbs*

Well, the new batch of soup that I made for our "soup club" here at the office is a real hit, and I think that I have some new "members" coming on board. It just means that I will be making a lot of soup one of these days. But, then that is what you get for being a fairly good cook. I can tell you that the main ingredients were butternut, potato and sweet potatoes. Further than that would be giving away secrets :)
Paul rides the Tour Durban on Sunday, and I hope that he is looking forward to it. The weather doesn't sound terribly promising, but hopefully the day will just bee cool and there won't be any rain. This morning they said that it would be cool, but you can never tell with the weather. It has a mind of it's own. I remember last year's Tour Durban was miserable with strong wind and rain. I gave that one a skip.
Anyway, must rush off.

The beginning

I thought I would give my blog an upbeat kinda heading, so that I can try remember to be upbeat, and remember that life isn't always as bad as Eeyor sees it!

I take this idea from a wonderful friend, Jo, so that I can keep people up to date, without having to try and remember who I have emailed or not, but it isn't an excuse not to email you all!

This isn't the most recent picture of us, but I thought it would be nice for you to see us anyway. Photographing my Paul is sometimes a big challenge :) But I always rise to that challenge.

So keep checking back here to see what's happing in the world of Paul and Kim!

Love
Kim
